Committees

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

The Membership Committee has the responsibility to increase and maintain Contemporary Forum’s membership level, with the help of other Board members, using promotional materials, letters, emails, and telephone calls; and to develop benefits of membership so that the membership rolls continue to grow.

              TRAVEL COMMITTEE

The Travel Committee arranges educational contemporary art-related trips for the Contemporary Forum membership, both domestic and international.  Travelers visit art fairs, museums, private collections,  artists’ studios, most of which would not be available to them individually.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

The Scholarship Committee implements the Contemporary Forum’s Scult Studio Art Scholarship each year.  The scholarship encourages and supports the progress and development of an undergraduate art student at Arizona State University.  The winning applicant is awarded payment of one year’s tuition, plus an honorary membership in Contemporary Forum, enabling her/him to meet potential patrons and clients and to attend CF cultural events.  The scholarship recipient is recognized at Contemporary Forum’s annual meeting in May, and slides of his/her work are exhibited at that time.  Committee Chair, 2008-2009:  Arlene Scult

ARTISTS’ GRANTS COMMITTEE

The Artists’ Grants are given each year to foster the creation of contemporary art by encouraging and assisting emerging artists living in Arizona.  Contemporary Forum awards up to seven Arizona artists $1500 each, for the purchase of materials necessary to continue their work.  The grants are designed to assist artists who will significantly benefit from public recognition and financial support.  Each year, artists are invited to apply for a grant.  To qualify, artists must be residents of Arizona and must be active, professional visual artists not working toward an academic degree.  Winners are announced at the Contemporary Forum annual meeting in May.
Committee Chair, 2008-2009:  Debi Patterson

MID-CAREER ARTIST AWARD COMMITTEE

The Mid-Career Artist Award is given by Contemporary Forum to the artist who has demonstrated excellence in a body of work created over time, who currently resides in Arizona, and who has worked professionally as an artist in Arizona for at least seven years.  A three-person jury comprised of Phoenix Art Museum’s Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, and two other art professionals appointed by the Curator, will review the nominations for the award and determine annually if and to whom an award should be given.  The winner will be announced at the Contemporary Forum Annual Meeting in May.  The Committee is responsible for gathering nominations for the Jury.

ACQUISITIONS COMMITTEE

The Acquisitions Committee exists to aid the Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art as he/she develops the contemporary art collection at Phoenix Art Museum.  Each year, the Chairperson of the Committee is appointed by the Contemporary Forum President; and each year, members of the Committee (no fewer than 9 and no more than 11) are chosen by the Chairperson, the CF President, and the Curator.
Committee Chair, 2008-2009:  Gail Rineberg
